I was very much on board when reds took over ambers all those years ago. But now I am older and more wistful, I can’t help but wonder if we gave up on amber ales too soon. Gone the way of the wheat and the brown, words that marketing will not let you put on a can because it will not sell.
Before IPA dominance, these beers were a good gateway into the world of American ales. I decided to make this beer just to see what it was like. Some elements are borrowed from the red IPAs I love, but there’s a hint of West Coast in there too. Bone dry, high sulphate, loads of hops.
Enjoy.
